Man Allegedly Rapes Best Friend’s Wife

A magistrate court sitting in Babura on Wednesday remanded a 35-year-old man, Chairman Dandanja of Lugan village in Babura local government area of Jigawa State for allegedly raping his friend’s wife.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused person took advantage of his relationship with the victim’s husband, Usman Adamu and visited the house when he was absent and forcefully had carnal knowledge of his wife.

He alleged that the accused threatened the victim with a knife and closed her mouth after he had called her to receive a message for her husband.

The accused, however, denied the allegation when it was read before the court.

He said that the victim demanded for the sex when he visited the house to look for his friend.

The victim also revealed that the accused person is a friend to her husband and used to come to the house day and night to look for her husband and have a discussion and some times even give gifts to her children.

“on that day when he came, our husband was not around. He then asked me to come and receive a message for our husband,” she stated.

“He then grabbed my hand and closed my mouth and threatened me with a knife and forcefully achieved what he intended to achieve.

“When my husband came back, I then informed him what had happened. He then reported the case to court”.

Presiding Judge, Rufaida N. Hussain ordered the accused to be remanded in prison until 13th November 2019 for further hearing.

Anambra Police Burst Kidnap Syndicate, Arrest Two Kingpins

The Anambra State Police Command says it has smashed a kidnapping syndicate terrorising the state, and arrested two suspected top members.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Haruna Mohammed, a superintendent of police (SP) said Saturday that the arrest followed a fierce gun battle with the criminals.

Mohammed said that police also recovered one revolver pistol, four live ammunition, and a victim’s body.

He said the gun battle between the police and the syndicate took place on Friday, at Owerrinta, Abia State.

According to him, the shootout took place when the abductors came to collect N3 million ransom from the victim’s family.

“Following actionable intelligence, Puff-Adder operatives, in conjunction with the Command’s Special Anti robbery Squad (SARS), tracked and arrested at Aro Ngwa, Owerrinta in Abia State, one Anthony Robbert ‘m’ 25 years.

“Robert was arrested alongside one Udoka Nwoko ‘m’ 27 years, after a fierce gun battle.

“The two suspects were fatally wounded during the encounter,’’ it said.

The command’s spokesman said the encounter followed the kidnap of one Amaechi Ike ‘m’, at Awada in Onitsha, Anambra.

“The suspects later collected N3 million ransom from his family, and still went ahead to kill the victim (Ike),” he said.

Mohammed stated that the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime and immediately took Police detectives to a shallow grave, where they buried the victim.

He said that the corpse was exhumed and recovered as exhibit and later deposited at a morgue.

The PPRO said that police recovered one locally-made revolver pistol and four live ammunition from the suspects.

He said the suspects had since been taken to the hospital for medical attention; and they would be charged to court after investigation.

The PRO used the medium to re-assure the public of Anambra Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang’s readiness to combat crime in the state.

He appealed to residents to always provide useful information that would assist the Police in protecting lives and property of all citizens.

NAF Chopper Crash: Reps Summon Chief Of Air Staff

The House of Representatives committee on Air Force has described as unfortunate the ugly incident involving an Air Force training helicopter which crashed in Enugu on Thursday.

Chairman, House Committee on Air Force, Hon. Shehu Koko, in a press statement, however, thanked God that no life was lost and assured of the House of Representatives determination “to investigate the remote cause of the ugly incident to avoid future reoccurrence.”

According to him, “the House Committee on Airforce upon hearing the sad incident that occurred on the 14th of November involving a Training Nigeria Airforce Helicopter Crash in Enugu State wishes to thank God that no life was lost.”

According to an official post on the NAF Twitter handle, “a training helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force had crashed in Enugu State after returning from a routine exercise.”

The report stated that the crash occurred on Thursday with some casualties, even as the cause of the incident is still unknown.

The tweet reads: “NAF helicopter suffers mishap upon landing in Enugu.

“Helicopter has crashed on landing in Enugu after a routine flight today. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries to any crewmember or persons on the ground.

“@CAS_AMSadique has directed that a board of inquiry be constituted to determine the cause of the accident.

“@NigAirForce continues to solicit the understanding and support of the general public as it daily strives to ensure the security of Nigeria and Nigerians,” the tweets read.

Hon. Koko said: “however, as members of parliament, particularly the House of Representatives committee on Air Force is disturbed that such incident occurred at a time when the Air Force had assured the Parliament and the nation that the force was fully prepared to take on insecurity head-on and bring an end to it in collaboration with other sister agencies.

“The Committee which has pledged its full support under the leadership of the Speaker Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is deeply saddened about this unfortunate situation.

“We, therefore, invite the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar to brief the Committee on the immediate and remote causes of the crash.

“The date for the interface shall be communicated through the Secretariat in due course,” Hon. Koko explained.

Kogi Decides: Election Marred By Ballot Box Snatching, Vote Buying, Beating Of Journalists, Observers, Others

The ongoing governorship elections across the 21 Local Government of Kogi State including that of Kogi West Senatorial election has been marred with ballot box snatching, vote buying, beating of journalists and observers by suspected political thugs.

DAILY POST gathered that, there was disruption of the election process at Lokoja Club Close to A Division as some fully armed thugs dressed in Police uniform invaded the polling unit to cart away the ballot box to an unknown place.

Similar incident played out in Crowder Memorial College, LGEA Secretariat Open Space, NEPA, LGEA Primary School Ganaja, Kabawa Area open Space, Adankolo, Open Space Miami Market all in Lokoja as journalistsd and observers who were on ground to cover the election all scampered for safety when the armed men arrived the polling units without resistance by security agencies on ground.

Some journalist observers within this period, suffered the beaten of their lives especially those caught making attempt to cover their nefarious activities using Camera, and Smart phone.

DAILY POST also gathered that the election across the 21 LGA recorded massive vote buying as voters were induced with money ranging from N500, N1,000, N3,000 and N5,000 respectively.

In other areas in Kogi West, aside Lokoja Local Government Area, there was heavy shooting at Ayetoro ward 1 unit 004 where Dino Melaye voted this morning

Less than an hour after he left the voting unit, some hoodlums in two Hilux vans and a Honda Civic stormed the place, shooting into the air and targeted the ballot box.

The ballot box was eventually taken away while some boys in the community chased the vehicles with no success.

In the East, there were shootings and snatching of ballot boxes in some polling units in Dekina Local Government Area.

Some of the areas affected are CMM Primary School, Eti Aya ward 1 Anyigba, and Yale.

Sources said voting were going on well when thugs shot sporadically and hijacked the ballot boxes and left with them.

It was learnt that voters scampered for safety.

Similar incident was also recorded in other LGA’s such as Ofu, Ankpa, Olamaboro LGA where it was gathered that phones of journalists and observers were seized by a particular party agent to prevent them from recording the election process.

Meanwhile, Gift Omoniwa, Executive Director, Search for Common Ground, who is an observer escape death by the whiskers.

The Executive Director was on election observation in Ganaja polling unit when hoodlums held her hostage, and attacked her vehicle.

It took the intervention of good Samaritans and security agencies to rescue her from the hands of her attackers.

According to report available to DAILY POST, Gift Omoniwa, was attacked when she drove a Siena bus alongside his team to the polling units without following due process.
